After a rather hurried setup, this website was first launched in late 2001. Over the following five years it underwent several changes and improvements, addressing browser compatibility, standard support, and backend support functionality without touching the outside appearance.
In summer 2006 the site was completely redesigned. This redesign did not only cover a new layout and improved navigation. It also allowed me to add flexiblity for future extensions and implement more or less identical appearance on all recent browsers.
The website was implemented with my homegrown sort-of-CMS, which I use for most of my webdesign projects.
The tools used are 
Eclipse with it's PHPEclipse and JSEclipse extensions for the PHP, CSS, HTML, JavaScript and the Java applet part.
Client-side debugging and layout control is done with Firefox and it's WebDeveloper, Firebug and IE Tab extensions.
Database management is done with SQL Manager for MySQL.
The website relies on state-of-the-art web technology without pushing it. CSS and lean markup is used for good measure (yupp - no table-layouts), the applets for crossfading slides are nice but no necessity, so is most of the JavaScript, no pop-ups, no proprietary solutions; instead validating pages and a scalable layout (unless you prefer absurd font sizes).
